Dining Out By Dining In

If you are like me when you are at a restaurant, you may spend a few minutes trying to figure out the recipe to that fabulous meal you are enjoying. I sit there and analyze the spices, how it was prepared and make a mental note so that I can write it all down when I get home.

But sadly enough, sometimes things just don’t come out the same and I am forced to ask for the recipe or some rendition of it. But now, I know I have help as many sites and professionals actually enjoy re-creating recipes from all of our favorite restaurants that can be found online or at a bookstore near you.

I took a poll with some of my friends to see what recipes they are dying to have. I got the Waldorf Chicken Salad from California Pizza Kitchen, the stuffed mushrooms from Maggiano’s Little Italy, chicken alfredo from the Marcaroni Grill and Olive Garden, the cilantro lime rice from Chipotle, the crab legs from Joe’s Crab Shack and the buffalo wings at Hooter’s.

So I set out on a mission to actually see what I could find to help them out. I didn’t do too bad and found some of my favorites along the way.

  1. Chipotle’s Cilantro Lime Rice
This one is also one of my favorites. I actually tried to make it once, again from memory, and failed miserable. But after a few tries, I was actually pretty proud of myself. But now that we have an actually recipe… oh it is on. We found it on the site Copykat Recipes and looks like a winner. Enjoy! Check out the recipe.
  2. California Pizza Kitchen Chicken Waldorf Salad
When I looked into finding this recipe, seems my friend isn’t the only one that goes crazy for this salad. Some like it with chicken or without. With balsamic or blue cheese. So after looking at a few, I shared this one with her and sorry CPK, not sure if she is coming back now that she can do it herself. But you never know because there is nothing like the real thing. Check out the recipe. I also found one that I think I will like that is served on a bed of lettuce. Check this one out.
  3. Joe’s Crab Shack’s Crab Cakes
Well I couldn’t find a recipe for the crab legs but got the next best thing for her, crab cakes. Joe’s is known to have pretty good seafood for the most part so after seeing this recipe and then reading the review, I think it is fair to give it to her. Check out the recipe.
  4. Maggiano’s Stuffed Mushrooms
My friend who loves these stuffed mushrooms from Maggiano’s is a vegetarian and this is absolutely one of his favorite foods. So when I was on a mission to find the best match for him, I have to admit how surprised I was to find so many combinations of stuffed mushrooms. Mushrooms stuffed with bacon, blue cheese, crab, Italian sausage, cheese, lobster, fish and on and on. But I think I found the one he wants and can make on his own. This will be fun to see what he thinks. Check out the recipe.
  5. Cheesecake Factory’s Oreo Cheesecake
The last recipe I was looking for was for me. I wanted to think of something that always sends me to my knees whenever I take the first bite. Oreo cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. One of my guilty pleasures. None of the cookbooks I have really do this dessert justice so I am curious to see how the recipe that I found from Copykat Recipes will compare. But, when it comes to my cheesecake, every book is a possible suitor until the first bite. Check out the recipe.

The bottom line for me is that it is so easy to find recipes for all of the foods we enjoy when dining out. Besides doing a search on the web, I would recommend looking into Dining Out At Home by Stephanie Manley of Copykat Recipes or Todd Wilbur’s Top Secret Recipes Unlocked. I think you will be surprised at how easy it is to create your favorite meals right in your very own kitchen.
