After a week of cooking for seven hours a day at the Biltmore Hotel's Culinary Bootcamp, I decided it was time to head to South Beach and enjoy a tasty meal prepared by someone else. I found myself at Red, a steakhouse that hit the Miami scene in 2009 arriving from Cleveland, where it has been a hot spot since 2004. Located in the uber trendy South of Fifth neighborhood, Red serves only the finest Certified Angus Beef Prime and boasts a steamy modern noir decor that oozes all things chic, while incorporating Miami's spicy flair.

Executive Chef, Peter Vauthy has created a hybrid menu of classic cuisine and the freshest seasonal ingredients. Everything from the sauces to garnishes is prepared from scratch - sure to tempt even the staunchest of vegetarians. The menu is complimented by a bar boasting a selection of over 400 wines, including its own private blend and handmade signature cocktails, making Red’s hipster-filled bar an experience all its own.

After enjoying a few cocktails, I ordered Brad's Hot Stuffed Peppers and the Crisp Chili Calamari as appetizers. The hot peppers, stuffed with housemade Italian sausage and tomato sauce, stood out the most and left me wanting more. For my entree, I tried both the lamb and veal chops. More than enough for one, you will get your money's worth with these savory dishes. Save room for dessert and make sure you try Red's amazing doughnut holes and cheesecake. Other decadent options include carrot and pineapple sorbet, chocolate molten cake and an ice-cream sundae that will have you reminiscing about childhood summers.

In addition to the savory cuisine and opulent bar, Red’s event spaces and rooftop terrace promise to rev up any special event. Looking to kick off the perfect bachelor party or watch the big game in style? Try Red’s front event room, fully stocked with a 42-inch plasma flat screen and seating for up to 16 guests. Want to put a twist on your next corporate event? The back room hosts up to 60 seated guests and has presentation capabilities that will blow your guests’ minds. If that weren’t enough, Red’s rooftop provides jaw-dropping panoramic views of Miami’s skyline – perfect for romantic dates or that long awaited marriage proposal.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Red. The service was sharp, waiters attentive and the food satisfying. So chic, that it has been chosen as the location of this month's South Beach Food & Wine Festival Prelude Dinner. Red is definitely the new black.
