A 360 Challenge to Well-Being with Ashanti Johnson

Although we love all seasons, none of them are even half as great as summer. Since it's only around the corner, now is usually the time we start thinking about our bodies in shorts and bathing suits. If you still need some motivation to help get you started on your summer beach body plans, don't stress, we found a person who can help you tone up so you can enjoy your body not just during summer but year around.

Meet Ashanti Johnson, personal trainer and owner of 360 Mind Body Soul in Chicago. Her facility is a one-of-a kind fitness studio that helps people build confidence and a can-do attitude through fitness, personal care and achievement. 360 aims to change the way people think about fitness. Before becoming a professional trainer, Johnson struggled with her body.  "I found myself being not only the largest but the tallest girl in the group which was extremely uncomfortable growing up. I battled with my weight through my teens and 20's," says Johnson. "I was adamant about getting fit and tried diet after diet. Everything from Weight Watchers to Nutrisystem. I've tried it all, until I found my formula."  Through dedication and hard work, she was able to reach her goals.

Johnson left her corporate job when she identified her passion for helping people get fit. "I decided to get certified. I recognized that I had a gift for teaching. People would come up to me and tell me that I was the highlight of their day and tell me about the type of success that they were seeing in their own weight loss journey because of my class. I realized this was a passion for me. I started a bootcamp and quit my job."

360 is centered around physical and mental fitness. It provides a unique connection between the mind, body, and soul. Johnson says it's important that you understand how this concept plays a part in your overall health. "It's important to work on all three because you cannot have one without the other. If you try to section them off, you can't get to the next level until you embodied them all. This purpose is to change the way people think and feel about fitness, their bodies, themselves and their world. They do this by educating, motivating, and supporting a balanced lifestyle for their clients.

Making the decision to join a gym is a great first step towards improving your health and quality of life. 360 provides a variety of classes like Pound, Thigh Master, Shredded, Bootcamp, Date Night and Zumba. Johnson loves teaching group classes because she sees the transformation people make when they have someone else to relate to.  "We've been open for four years and have helped Chicagoans loose over 7000 pounds within our challenges."

Losing weight and getting fit is no easy task, especially with so many temptations along with a busy lifestyle. Johnson is dedicated to giving people a great fitness experience while helping people of all fitness levels reach their goals. Whether your goal is to stay in shape, lose weight or prepare for the summer, adopting a healthy lifestyle will inspire you for a lifetime.

Here's some tips from Johnson that will set you on the right path:

1. Create a goal. If you don't have a goal you are sort of reaching out in the dark. When you set a goal, you have something to measure success by. Success leads to more motivation.

2. Find an activity that you love because if you decide to do cross-fit and you can't stand doing push-ups, you're not going to last very long. Change comes with constancy and practice. So find an activity that you love.

3. Make your house food craving proof. Everyone puts the emphasis just on the workout of weight loss, but it's really about 70 to 80 percent diet. You can't work off a bad diet. We've all seen that treadmill calorie counter move super slow after an hour. If you like to eat in bulk, go for those items that you can eat in bulk such as fruits and vegetables.

4. Workout with a friend. It's so easy for you to fall off when you are doing it by yourself, but when you have a friend or someone who is more motivated than you, it's going to be harder to fall off track.

5. Start practicing self-love in other ways. That doesn't have to come in the form of ice cream or pizza on Friday night. You can get a manicure or buy flowers for yourself. That's really important because if you have a tough time giving to yourself, then it's going to be hard for you to be constant all the way to your goals.

Johnson plans to expand her business by opening other locations in the future but anyone can join her 360 online jump-start challenges. For more information on how you can start living a healthy lifestyle, visit
