The calming fragrance of lavender and tangy citrus make this the perfect cocktail for a quiet evening at home or a relaxing afternoon on the porch. It's inspired by a traditional cocktail in Alsace made with cremant d'Alsace and lemon verbena tea. Make the lavender tea by steeping two bags in one cup of boiling water for 4 minutes. Let the tea cool before proceeding.
- 1 key lime, sliced
- lavender sugar (recipe follows)
- 3 ounces cooled, lightly steeped lavender tea
- 1 ounce homemade sour mix
- 3 ounces chilled brut sparkling wine
- Moisten the rim of a tumbler or flute with the sliced key lime. Press the rim of the glass into the lavender sugar, shaking off the excess.
- Add the lavender tea and the sour mix to the glass, being careful not to disturb the sugared rim. Top off with the sparkling wine. Serve with ice if it's a hot day.
To make Lavender Sugar, crush 10 dried lavender pods into 1/2 cup sugar and mix to combine thoroughly. Store in an airtight container in cool dry spot.
