OWN Orders Docuseries, “Checking Inn” with Former Essence Editor

Oprah Winfrey Network has commissioned two docuseries slated to join its primetime Saturday night lineup, including “Released” and “Checking Inn.”

Produced by Lucky 8 TV, “Released” provides autobiographical portraits of formerly incarcerated individuals as they attempt to reconnect with loved ones and establish their independence.

Nearly 40% of convicted felons released from prison re-offend within the first six months of freedom, and three quarters (77%) were re-arrested within five years, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

The series is exec produced by Oprah Winfrey alongside Lucky 8′s Greg Henry, Kim Woodard, Jarrett Lambo and Keayr Braxton. Author and advocate Shaka Senghor serves as consulting producer.

Meanwhile, the tentatively titled Checking Inn from Trooper Entertainment, in association with Lionsgate Television, features former Essence magazine editor-in-chief Monique Greenwood (pictured) as she pursues her lifelong dream of running her own bed and breakfast.
