Making Music to Wine

by  V. Sheree Williams on April 25, 2008

A legend in the music industry, the father of Neo-Soul Kedar Massenburg is now starting a new movement called K'orus.

Within the music industry, he has been dubbed the "Father of Neo-Soul" who started a soul movement at a time when the industry seemed flat. A pure entrepreneur at heart, Kedar Massenburg's ear for talent led to the discovery of D"Angelo and Erykah Badu. Today, this Brooklyn born businessman with a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has built his empire that entails Kedar Entertainment and most recently a French line of fine wines called K'orus.

It was only three years ago when Massenburg tried his first glass of wine. It was a Shiraz by yellow tail. He admits that it was the labels and the vast amount of selections to choose from that delayed his entry into the world of a wine lover. But once entered, he started a new movement which he calls K'orus.

With the name originating from an Egyptian god, Massenburg created K'orus to be the first wine to embrace African-Americans and their lifestyles. He teamed up with Jean-Sebastien Robicquet, a master distiller and founder of EuroWineGate, to develop a product through his company Kedar Beverages, LLC that would cater to all Americans especially African-Americans who they felt was an untapped and overlooked group.

For Massenburg, K'orus is about complementing life and a way to bring people together. His vision is to empower others to learn and explore the world of wine without feeling intimated as he once did. Through K'orus, he has a passion to bridge the gap between the wine industry and African-Americans by producing products that allow consumers to select and drink wines with confidence whether they are beginners or more experienced.

He currently offers three selections: the Merlot, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each is carefully crafted to deliver an unforgettable taste and experience. K'orus is available through Mr. Chow Restaurants, online through Mondo Liquor and at selected locations in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Miami, Nevada, New York and North Carolina.

With plans to build Kedar Beverage, LLC into a full beverage company, future "varietals" include a Sauvignon Blanc, Rose', Pinot Noir and Champagne. In addition, Massenburg is planning to launch K'orus lounges as well as a CD to consummate this new movement between music and wine.

As other celebrity music moguls enter the world of wine and spirits, consumers must be aware that in the end it is the product that must speak for itself not the celebrity name that is attached. The K'orus movement is more than using a name to push products. It is about using the products to create an experience that celebrates and complements life. And in the center of that celebration is K'orus, a French wine made by an American company for all Americans.
