There are lots of kitchen gadgets on the market, but let’s be honest: some are cooler than others. Learn about the coolest gadgets every home chef needs now.

The world is full of advertisements for kitchen gadgets, each one claiming to be newer and cooler than the last. Having the newest and coolest gadget can be fun, but if it’s a device you’ll barely use that takes up a lot of shelf space or gives unreliable results, you don’t want it in your kitchen. While we can’t claim to know all the coolest kitchen gadgets that all home chefs need, we’ve compiled a list of some favorites to help home chefs decide what additions they’d like to bring home.

Steam Ovens

Steam ovens look like typical ovens but use steam to cook with a “wet heat,” making them more eco-friendly and healthier than traditional ovens and fryers. They come in a range of sizes and with a variety of settings, so you can get a steam-only model or one that can switch between steam and convection. Decide which steam oven is right for you, and you can use yours for everything from vegetables to meats to desserts—it’s a great kitchen addition for any home chef.

Digital Kitchen Scale

Switching from measuring cups to a digital kitchen scale may not seem like a big change. But scales are one of the staples of a professional kitchen, so it’s a good idea to add one to yours. Scales are more reliable than measuring cups and can more easily accommodate large amounts of ingredients. They’re great for large baking projects or recipes that require great precision, so if your baking or cooking style fits that description, then a digital kitchen scale is for you.

Precision Cooker

For extra ease in the kitchen, add a precision cooker to your appliance lineup. Precision cookers are small, so you might think they don’t do much, but they’ll revolutionize your cooking process with the touch of a button. Precision cookers assist with water bath cooking, where you heat water to a specific temperature before adding meat, vegetables, eggs, or whatever else you need to cook. The precision cooker will keep the water at the same temperature and let you know when it’s done.

Coffee and Spice Grinder

Start your day or your recipe with extra freshness by having a coffee and spice grinder in your kitchen. Fresh ground coffee has a better taste and allows for more antioxidants in your morning cup of joe. Being able to grind your own spices fresh before cooking allows for better flavor since whole spices have oils in them that start to fade after grinding.

Some spices like cinnamon and turmeric also have health benefits, so grinding them yourself will allow you to get all those benefits as soon as they’re ready, not after they’ve been transported to a store and sat on a shelf for days on end.

Steam ovens, digital scales, precision cookers, and coffee/spice grinders are some of the coolest kitchen gadgets that all home chefs need. While your cooking needs may vary, these basic appliances can help make any kitchen process smoother.
