With the new season of his hit cooking show, “Just Eats with Chef JJ,” airing on CLEO TV, chef JJ Johnson has plenty to talk about. Since the debut of season two last month, viewers are loving not only the guests joining the New York chef in the kitchen but the recipes too.
“This season I was super focused on making you feel like you were with me through the whole process and you can make this dish at home. Last season we really didn’t give out recipes. People really wanted that,” says Johnson during our phone interview.
As viewers tune in each Saturday, they are always in for a good time as Johnson and his guests laugh and cook some of the tastiest recipes on TV. “You can expect the best conversations around food. You can expect amazing recipes. You can also expect cultural food television, which you don’t see it. You see it but it’s very minimal. This is the future,” Johnson shares.
“I get down and dirty or I keep really simple,” says Johnson. “People are emailing me or dm’ing me all the time, ‘Oh my God, I got to try this collard greens lasagna. Is it hard? It looked really easy.’ And I’m like, ‘You can do it.’ And that’s the whole thing, I want people to be able to do what I’m cooking on the show in their home.”
Besides the recipes, Johnson and the production team wanted to focus on giving viewers somethings else that shows are not. A show that is more than just cooking and is about connecting and uplifting Black culture through conversations that take place around food. “I think it’s a great show, for us by us. It really is inspirational. I think it’s something that TV just hasn’t had, ever, and they have it now.”
“Just Eats with Chef JJ” airs each Saturday on CLEO TV at 12 pm EST/11 am CST. To check out clips from past episodes, visit CLEO TV.
