Instagram star Kevin Curry wants you to have weight loss success in the new year. He shares everything you need to get started in his book, “Fit Men Cook: 100+ Meal Prep Recipes for Men and Women—Always #HealthyAF, Never Boring.” This colorful cookbook features 100 recipes with most taking less than 30 minutes to prepare. I’m glad to see the serving sizes, prep and cook times, and nutrition facts such as calories, fat, and sodium for each one. In addition, he posts his own labels which reminds me of icons. They help people identify recipes to integrate into their eating plan.
Easy substitutions are also provided throughout the book. Curry uses ingredients commonly found at local supermarkets and utilizes herbs, spices and seasonings to ensure a flavorful experience. The hardcover book excites my palate with its appetizing images of naughty Caprese frittata, crispy quinoa chicken nuggets, orange miso salmon, sweet potato and chickpea abundance bowl, and sweet ‘n’ salty cashew butter shake. Though Curry stresses the importance of cooking, he doesn’t leave readers hanging. He shows us how to meal prep, what kitchen tools to have on hand, and offers sample weekly grocery list and meal plans for bachelor(ette), family, tight budgets, and vegetarian/vegan lifestyles. He understands the struggle, so he gently dishes a dose of reality about the journey.
Curry created a platform to help with his own health and fitness goals. He would exercise and eat during the week, and then on the weekends, he would indulge in food and alcoholic beverages. This led to overeating, weight gain and depression. The Harvard graduate turned his life around after reading books about nutrition, calories and metabolism. He also gained insight from social media followers and strangers in the gym.
Now, he inspires millions to eat healthily and stay fit with his website, app and YouTube channel, FitMenCook. The app is one of the top three food and drink apps in the United States and the United Kingdom. He is a contributor for several syndicates including “Today Show,” “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and Men’s Health magazine. He also has brand partnerships with Kroger, Homewood Suites & Home2 by Hilton, Panera, and more.
“Fit Men Cook” supplements Curry’s efforts to connect with people. It serves its purpose for those looking to lose weight and try new dishes. Personally, I can’t wait to experiment with the budget sweet potato lasagna, cheesy curry chips and the cilantro-tahini dressing. They seem practical and simple like many others. I can imagine Curry rooting for me as I take on this task. Who wouldn’t love that about their book!
