Before you hit the road for your next vacation, make sure you’re prepared with the right stuff. Here are the best foods and snacks for a road trip.

If you’re planning to hit the road for your next vacation, either with some friends or the whole family, bringing the right supplies for a long drive is essential. Driving to a destination can save you a ton of money, but it’s easy to be underprepared and have to suffer through multiple hours stuck in the car.

This might be terrible enough to tank the whole vacation before it even begins. For your convenience, here are the best foods and snacks for a road trip.

Sandwiches

Like many of the items on this list, sandwiches are perfect for all ages and relatively mess free. The best part is that you can choose any sandwich type your heart desires. Some people prefer a savory cold-cut sandwich, while others opt for classic peanut butter and jelly.

Both are great for recharging after many hours on the road. Packing a few sammies in the cooler before starting your trip is a great way to guarantee a healthy lunch without having to stop.

Apples and Carrots

Fruits and veggies are absolute musts for any extended period in the car. It’s easy to snack on processed goods, since they’re cheap and readily available at every rest stop. However, you’re missing out on proper nutrients by avoiding fresh produce.

Apples are the ultimate road trip snacks—they don’t require preparation, and they’re delicious, packed with healthy benefits and entirely biodegradable. Likewise, carrots only need to be packed in the cooler, and they make for excellent finger foods.

Jerky

Everyone loves snacking on some jerky in the car, as this cut of meat is savory, chewy, and packed with protein. Plus, it doesn’t need to be temperature controlled thanks to its preserved nature.

Many people don’t know that jerky is a very healthy option for road trips. This dried snack contains so many vitamins and minerals that it’s actually considered a superfood! Plus, there are tons of variety in jerky flavors to pick from when you’re planning your vacation.

The best foods and snacks for a road trip are affordable ones that don’t require much preparation or cleanup. Anything high in nutrients is an excellent option to help you stay alert while on the road.
