The next time you find yourself wanting a glass of wine to wind down the day or even dessert to make the reminders of a Zoom marathon go away (I know I am not the only one), the wines I am about to suggest will do both and more.
If you remember my review of the winery, distillery and brewery Round Barn based in Michigan and their canned offerings last year, you’ll know that I quickly became a fan. This year, they have truly outdone themselves with the release of their cream wine collection that includes Mint Chocolate Cream, Salt Caramel Cream and Black Walnut Cream.
Now let’s get into each one for a moment, starting with my favorite.
A Dream Cream Trio
Because wine is meant to be enjoyed with others, with glasses in place, I poured my tasting party a small amount of the Mint Chocolate Cream and the look on all of our faces after the first sip said it all. You have mint on the nose and a creamy smooth finish going down.
If you are a fan of Kahlua, then you will know what we were experiencing. Foods to eat with and desserts to pour it over immediately took over the conversation. As of late, I am opting for French vanilla ice cream and pouring this cream wine on top and all around. For the holidays, it will be a different story as I am already thinking about adding it to my brownie, cookie and bread pudding recipes. A blend of cream, white wine and natural flavorings of peppermint and chocolate, I highly suggest ordering a bottle for $29.99.
Anytime you say salt and follow with caramel, I am all ears. Lighter in color but just as creamy in flavor, the Salted Caramel Cream wine is my second favorite out of the trio. The caramel note immediately hit my lips for that “velvety” feeling on the palatte. The salted note is there on the nose. Like the Mint Chocolate Cream, I had to remind myself that it contains 13.9% alcohol via the white wine, so don’t get too carried away thinking about the cream and the caramel. Grab a bottle for $29.99 as well.
Lastly, although I was raised on black walnut ice from Baskin Robbins and it is still my go-to choice today, this Black Walnut Cream wine variation came in third only due to its subtle flavor. Before taking a sip, stop and just lightly smell. The black walnut notes are there, so take your time so you don’t miss them. Blended with cream, white wine and of course black walnuts, it also comes in with 13.9% alcohol and a little less at $25.99. Still a great choice.
No matter which one you choose, the enjoyment options are plentiful. Of course, one choice is to drink them alone or in coffee and hot chocolate. When you get ready to kick it up, think cocktails, cooking and baking. Enjoy before a meal or to bring one to a close. Pick your flavor and then let the creaminess inspire you.
