Which seafood dishes work best when the temperature drops? Consider some of the best ways to eat seafood in the winter to help you stay warm and full.

When the temperatures start to dip, we often turn to comfort foods to stay warm. Some may think of seafood strictly as a summertime dish since many options are fresh and perfect on the grill, like salmon and shrimp. However, seafood is just as enjoyable when the weather turns cold. Here are the best ways to eat seafood in the winter to help you stay toasty and full.

Clam Chowder

Soup is a wonderful option when you want warmth and comfort in a bowl, and seafood works well in this form. One dish you may want to try this winter is clam chowder—you can amp up the comfort factor when you eat this out of a warm bread bowl.

Clam chowder also works well with the bread on the side. Try pairing the soup with a tasty piece of sourdough bread fresh from the oven. Feel free to dip the bread in the chowder to fully appreciate all those wonderful, creamy flavors.

Salmon Wellington

If you’re looking for an elegant way to enjoy seafood, try preparing salmon Wellington. This method involves cooking your salmon fillet in melted butter and combining it with spinach. These two delicious elements are brought together in a puff pastry, which then gets baked in the oven.

Salmon Wellington is a great option that’s sure to impress guests at any holiday party. However, if picky eaters are among the group, there are several other ways to prepare fresh Alaskan salmon. This fish is nutritious and versatile, and there are recipes for practically everyone to enjoy it.

Crab Cakes

Crab cakes are one of the best ways to eat seafood in the winter. The sweet taste of crab pairs well with the golden crust of the cake. While they are a popular appetizer, you can make these cakes into a full meal. Try pairing the crab cakes with herbed potatoes you can bake in the oven; this is a healthier choice than French fries and will help you feel warm and full.

Scallops and Grits

Consider adding scallops to your dinner menu if you want to enjoy something fresh and in season. They pair well with creamy grits and Cajun seasonings, giving you that spicy and warm kick needed to forget about the cold weather.

Be sure to cook the grits before preparing the scallops. And when deciding on which scallops you want, consider choosing sea scallops since they’re on the bigger side and work perfectly for this dish.
