The Chew: An Essential Guide to Cooking and Entertaining

Since its debut in 2011, ABC’s hit cooking show, “The Chew,” has given viewers a reason to stop what they are doing in the middle of the day for some laughs and great recipe ideas that often turn into dinner for many of us.  The five hosts –  Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly, Daphne Oz and Michael Symon –  have become a part of our day just as much as Erica Kane and “All My Children” did during its 41-year run.

Just released this spring is their fourth cookbook, “The Chew: An Essential Guide to Cooking and Entertaining,” which is again filled with delicious recipes, entertaining tips and cooking techniques that can save time and enhance the flavor of your food.

The book is broken down into five chapters that start with Back to the Basics and ends with Guilty Pleasures.  In between, you’ll be all smiles with the photos of the hosts having fun on set as they share their passion for making good food with one another.

There is a recipe for everyone in this book.  One recipe marked and tried by our team is Daphne’s Turkey Tacos with Creamy Chipotle Dressing. We love turkey tacos and when we added this dressing, we were in heaven. Another quick and delicious recipe is Symon’s Polish Boy.   This game day sandwich of kielbasa sausages is topped with a spicy slaw and enjoyed with a side of fries. Everyone from the kids to adults will be asking for seconds and maybe thirds.

Honorable mentions include Kelly’s Creole Shrimp and Grits, Hall’s Chocolate Phyllo Tart and S’Mores Cream Puffs and Batali’s Beef and Barley Soup.  Oz definitely had a lot of winners in this cookbook and because we are big fans of Hall, we would have loved to have more recipes by her.

If you are a fan of the show as well as the hosts, this cookbook will make your taste buds very happy.  Both savory and sweet creations shine on the pages with recipe ideas to carry you through various seasons and occasions.

“The Chew: An Essential Guide to Cooking and Entertaining,” is available at Amazon as well as in bookstores such as Barnes and Noble.
