I’ve selected some African-inspired items to keep on hand for everyday use or theme nights. They connect you to a continent thousands of miles away. Browse the list and let us know what tickles your fancy. Enjoy!

Iya Foods Jollof Rice Pilaf Seasoning

A taste and smell of Africa – this bold seasoning offers a depth of flavors and with the right amount of heat. A little goes a long way. As per the packaging, the jollof rice recipe calls for Iya simmering sauce; I substituted a can (14.5 oz.) of diced tomatoes for convenience. It works well. Pair the rice with fried fish and a side salad. Superb!

Retail price: $4.99 | $7.99
Size: 2 oz. | 5 oz.
Available: www.iyafoods.com and Amazon

Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz

This pleasant red wine exudes a subtle berry fragrant. It provides a nice balance of sugar and acid with a tart finish. I enjoyed the 100 percent shiraz with a charcuterie board and chocolate truffles. Product of Paarl, South Africa. Cheers!

Retail price: $12.99
Size: 750ml
Available: www.jamjarwines.com, Kroger, Whole Foods, Cost Plus World Market and wine stores nationwide

Westrock Coffee Rwanda Select Reserve Dark

This Rwandan-inspired coffee features a delicate aroma and a rich body. It leaves a satisfying bitterness on the tongue unlike other dark roasts. Friends and family like it and the brew complements a glazed donut twist perfectly. Also available in ground and whole beans.

Retail price: $6.99 | $36.90
Size: 12 count | 80 count
Available: www.westrockcoffee.com, Kroger, Ingles, Food City, Bi Lo, Winn Dixie, King Soopers, Harps, Cost Plus World Market and Amazon

Ukuva i-Africa South Africa Safari BBQ Sauce

This charming bottle contains a delicious barbecue sauce with pungent, yellow curry and small pieces of peaches and apricots. The tangy goodness gives grilled chicken breast a spice of life. The savory condiment also can be used as a marinade. Product of Cape Town, South Africa.

Retail price: $5.99
Size: 8.12 oz.
Available: Cost Plus World Market (In-store and online)

GoAfrica Dark Chocolate Covered Cashews

This scrumptious treat makes a yummy snack. The luscious, semi-sweet chocolate coating adds a dark smoothness to the crunchy nut that produces addictive behaviors. I suggest hiding the bag. Created in partnership with the Cacao and Cashew Cooperatives of Côte d'Ivoire and Nigerian. sources.

Retail price: $12
Size: 8 oz.
Available: www.goafricastore.com
