If you’re a fan of 90s R&B, want to meet new people and love a good eggs benny or fried chicken and waffles, this mash-up of music, brunch and day party will check every box on your weekend “to do” list. Brunch2Bomb is a monthly event in Los Angeles, California, transporting you back into the 90s with hours of great music, food, dancing and networking.

The masterminds behind the epic brunch party are Adrienne Reed and Benjamin Walker who met in college and reconnected years later. A simple idea of a birthday party for 30+ morphed into what is now a 300+ Sunday destination for their many followers on social media. Reed is a marketing and branding professional with her own company and Walker is a self-taught DJ who has several residencies throughout the city. The pair work well together and complement each other with their big personalities and love of music.

Forget bottle service and attitudes, because Brunch2Bomb prides itself on a casual, fun atmosphere without the pretentiousness. And don’t expect haute cuisine because it’s not all about the food, though deliciousness can be found on the menus which are specially curated for most events to reflect African American palates – Nashville-style hot chicken, shrimp and grits and Cajun tater tots to name a few. Communal dining is on purpose – so it’s more comfortable to network, make business or personal connections and engage in conversation. Reed is passionate about this aspect of the brunch. “We use food and music to bring millennials together. It’s important to me, for us to have buying power without the bottle service and the fake Hollywood club standards.”

Though the social gatherings are intended for professional millennials ages 21 and over, there are some mature patrons sprinkled into the mix. Everyone is welcome – but you’ve got to like the music from the decade that gave us “Martin,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and “A Different World.”

While the DJ spins music that may bring back memories of an era, movie and TV clips play in the background. Each event usually has a theme and might have a celebrity host to add to the fun. July’s brunches included The BAPS Edition hosted by Amber Riley from “Glee” and the Boomerang Edition with host Antoinette Robertson from Netflix’s “Dear White People.” The brunch duo is celebrating birthdays this month (Reed on 8/20 and Walker on 8/24) and will host a special celebration on Sunday, August 19 with a theme from the movie “Friday” from 11 am to 5 pm. Ticket information is available on Eventbrite.

Brunch2Bomb is held at different venues throughout L.A. and with plans to expand to other cities in the near future. They also have philanthropic plans to give back to the community. For all upcoming brunch and social events, be sure to check out their calendar of events at www.brunch2bomb.net and plan to stay all day.  You can also follow them for updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
