Southern Sweet Potato Pie

Sweet Potato Pie by Kelli Ferrell

Making a sweet potato pie at home is fun when you try this recipe.

Try it and enjoy the perfect taste.

Recipe from “Kooking with Kelli: Kollection of Family Recipes from Nana’s Chicken-n-Waffles” by Kelli Ferrell available on Amazon.

Prep time: 25 mins |   Cook time: 55 mins | Serves: 6 – 8

INGREDIENTS

2 pounds sweet potatoes, washed and dried (2 cups puréed)
2 large eggs
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
½ cup melted butter
pinch kosher salt
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 can evaporated milk
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 9-inch unbaked pie shell

PREPARATION 
  1. Beat eggs, add sugar and mix well.
  2. Add remaining filling ingredients. Mix at a high speed, strain and pour into pie shell.
  3. Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes, reduce heat to 350°F, bake 50 minutes longer. Serve warm.

Kelli’s Kooking Tip: Garnish with cool whip and sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon. Don’t forget the vanilla bean ice cream.
